13:53 DJN: DJ WHO/Pneumonia -3: More Than 150 Cases Reported In Past Wk
The international health organization says it has received more than 150 reports of acute respiratory syndrome in the past week.
"SARS is now a worldwide health threat," said Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, director general of the World Health Organization. "The world needs to work together to find its cause, cure the sick, and stop its spread."
The advisory said there was no reason to restrict travel to any destination.
But it urged travelers to seek medical attention if they have shown symptoms of the illness after coming in contact with someone infected or had traveled to an area with reported cases. Symptoms include coughing, high fever and shortness of breath.
The guidelines, which also were given to airlines, advises travelers not to continue with their journey until they have completely recovered.
